Stuck at the starting line? Lost in the weeds?

Book coaching for industry-leaders and entrepreneurs

  • Are you trying to write a book – but it feels like you’re actually writing two books? (The one you want to write and the one you have to write.)

  • Do you know your subject inside and out – but feel like you sometimes get a bit too deep into the weeds?

  • Do you want to get through the writing process more efficiently (and have a little fun along the way)?

Book coaching is all about working with someone who knows how to ask the right questions to make sure you’re staying on track to publish the best possible work.

To help you develop a strategy for producing the kind of writing that connects, I immerse myself into your ecosystem of ideas and step into your audience’s shoes. Together, we decide what kind of writing best supports your goals, working towards a high-level statement of what your piece is about, who it is for, and its parameters.

Who is Book Coaching For?

For people who need to develop their ideas before getting to the writing phase or who want to write their book themselves and need accountability/guidance throughout the process.

What Does Book Coaching Involve?

Biweekly meetings (1hr each) in which we work through your ideas, moving you towards confidence in writing a high-level statement about your book, and its structure.

After each of our sessions, I’ll provide you with a summary of key insights, as well as a recording and transcript of the call, so you can capture all the gems that emerge. In addition to helping you develop your ideas, these sessions will also offer you an opportunity to troubleshoot any difficulties in your writing practice: I can serve as an accountability partner, cheerleader and strategist.

In between sessions, I’ll be available for questions and feedback to keep you on track.

Together, we’ll develop a working outline and a plan to bring it to life.

How Long Does it Take?

It depends! When you feel ready to move to the writing process, I am happy to discuss offering you writing services; I also can work with my coaching clients as an editor.

What’s My Investment?

$1,000 per month, with a minimum six-month commitment.

So what happens next?

It all starts with a complimentary call so I can learn where you are and where you want to go with your writing, and determine how best to get you there.

We chat

During our regular meetings, I’ll help you get to the big idea - and give you high-level notes and recordings after each, to keep you on track.

We dig in

We produce an outline, a sample passage, and a plan to finish. Book future sessions to support your writing process or engage me for editing once you have a draft.

FAQs

  • I love working with passionate people who are ready and excited to do the hard work of writing.

  • People who don’t show up or keep their commitment to the work. I’ll be here to guide you through the inevitable rough patches of creation, but you’ll have to meet me half way.

  • I don’t handle publishing myself, but am happy to refer you to self-publishing services.

  • If you are interested in writing services, check them out. While I don’t offer stand-alone editing services, I can provide them to coaching clients as an add-on.

“I don’t think I would have been able to complete my book without Marisa’s help; I know I would not have been able to complete the book I wanted to write without her expert guidance. Marisa read multiple drafts, identifying passages that required further development, whether granular or structural. A careful reader and a generous listener, Marisa understood what I was trying to do. She also understood the erratic rhythms of writing—sections that could be speedily rewritten for elegance and readability, and critical sentences that required more time and attention. I cannot recommend her brilliant editing highly enough! Thanks to her editing I was able to write an academic book published with a University Press that also appeals to a general readership and has even been recorded as an audiobook.”
